The Substance Exposed Pregnancy Initiative of Connecticut (SEPI-CT) aims to improve the health and well-being of infants born substance-exposed by supporting the recovery of pregnant people and their families.

To better support pregnant individuals, SEPI-CT has added a new interactive tool to its website. The tool guides users through a short questionnaire about the types of services they’re looking for and then generates a list of nearby options. Users can select the services they want, and the tool organizes them into a personalized plan.

“The purpose of the Family Care Plan Virtual Tool is to create a space for pregnant/birthing people to create their own family care plan in a user-friendly way,” said Program Manager Shayla Ranmal-Suppies. “The tool is a dynamic interface that allows both pregnant/birthing people and providers to create a Family Care Plan that easily pulls resources based on their zip code.”

Users can add various types of services to a Family Care Plan, including medical care, reproductive care, financial and housing assistance, WIC, home visiting, parenting groups, substance use recovery supports, and other resources.

Ranmal-Suppies highlights several favorite features of the Family Care Plan Virtual Tool: “We appreciate how easily accessible it is on the SEPI-CT website and that individuals can create an account to edit their family care plans as needed. Both individuals and providers can print, email, or save plans directly to their phones. We also value the tool’s integration with 211, which allows users to find local resources based on their zip code. Plus, the option to use the tool anonymously gives birthing individuals peace of mind, knowing their information won’t be stored or shared.”

“Working with Exposure has been great,” said Ranmal-Suppies. “Exposure has made our vision come true with the website and the Family Care Plan Virtual Tool.”
