DrugFreeCT, a statewide resource offering information on substance use prevention, treatment, recovery, and harm reduction in Connecticut, launched a new website. The site is also home to the Change the Script campaign, which features two mobile resource vans to bring materials directly into communities across the state.
A longtime Exposure client, DrugFreeCT wanted to upgrade its current website, including a complete reorganization of its resources and main navigation to eliminate redundant content and make it easier for site visitors to find what they’re looking for.
Prior to redesigning the site, Exposure conducted a full content audit, analyzing hundreds of pages to eliminate redundancies and streamline the organization of critical resources. It created an updated site map showing what should be changed, moved, or combined.
DrugFreeCT wanted to rebrand as part of the website project, so Exposure led a branding exercise to develop a new identity that became the foundation for the website redesign. The redesigned logo and color palette, a vibrant combination of purples and blues, encapsulates the organization’s mission and values, embodying both a star—to symbolize light and positivity—and a compass—to represent direction and travel. “It is simultaneously reflective of our inclusive, person-centered work, our statewide presence, and the continuum of care necessary to have productive conversations around substance use prevention and recovery," said Abigail Lieberman, MPH, Project Coordinator.
The new site was designed with user experience as a top priority, featuring structured landing pages to guide visitors efficiently to the information they need. The previous site was structured primarily by drug type, but as needs evolved, a new approach was necessary. Now, content is categorized into five main categories: substance info, prevention and awareness, harm reduction, treatment and recovery, and resources, ensuring users can find relevant information more efficiently.
Each section has its own landing page, and Exposure created a custom megamenu to simplify navigation between the sections. In the resources section, site visitors can order free materials online, such as brochures, flyers, and pens.
“We love the dynamic look and feel of the updated website; it is so engaging and aesthetically pleasing, with increased accessibility features for our users to navigate the site with ease,” said Lieberman. “Exposure was able to take our goals of being a welcoming, multifaceted resource in the state and create something truly representative of our program.”
“Our experience working with Exposure was phenomenal,” said Lieberman. “They did extensive preliminary work with our entire team to ensure their understanding of our program overall as well as our vision for updating the site. They were incredibly patient during the decision-making process and did an excellent job training our staff on how to use any and all new features.”
